Jabiru - tallest flying bird in Central & South America

P1020184

A rare sight to see, the Jabiru stands 4- 5 ft tall with a wingspan of 7.5 to 9 ft.  Protected status in Belize since 1973 and by the U.S. Migratory Bird Act.  We were lucky our local tour guide spotted them on our way to the Lamanai ruins.
